The first thing you need to understand is that sleep is not just a time when you lie unconscious. During sleep, restoration, internal cleansing, and healing of the body occur. Essentially, when you fall asleep, you enter a rejuvenation chamber where your body repairs and heals. However, if the necessary conditions aren’t met, your body doesn’t regenerate well. This means that you’ll feel exhausted throughout the day and may need to artificially motivate yourself to get anything done. If poor sleep becomes frequent, your body will age faster. Let's first focus on the following:
So, how can you achieve these results and wake up well-rested?
1. Make the Room Completely Dark:
Your sleeping environment should be as dark as possible. Lights from devices in sleep mode, streetlights, and any other ambient lighting will stimulate your brain and reduce sleep quality. The same applies to any noises that disturb you. If achieving complete darkness and soundproofing is not possible, consider using an eye mask and earplugs.
2. Go to Bed Around 10 PM and Wake Up at 6 AM:
Sleep before midnight is twice as effective for recovery as sleep after midnight. So, if you go to bed at 10 PM and wake up at 4 AM, you will get the same recovery as an eight-hour sleep (compared to going to bed at midnight and waking up at 8 AM). This is due to our biological rhythms.
3. Avoid Stimulants One Hour Before Bedtime:
An hour before bed, avoid stimulating activities such as watching horror movies, working, or anything that puts stress on your brain. Your brain processes the information received during the last hour before sleep six times more intensely. If you engage in mental activity during this time, your brain will keep processing that information during the night. Instead, try reading something light, listening to music, playing with your child, or doing something relaxing.
4. Avoid Heavy Dinner:
While sleeping, your body doesn’t just rest but also detoxifies and eliminates waste products from metabolism. A heavy dinner is the worst thing you can do before bed. Try to eat your last meal 2-3 hours before sleeping, and avoid heavy foods like meat. If you eat too close to bedtime, your body will focus on digestion instead of regeneration. This will prevent you from sleeping well. If you feel hungry before bed, drink a glass of kefir one hour before going to sleep.
By following these simple guidelines, you’ll ensure that your sleep becomes truly restorative and energizing, setting you up for a productive and healthy day ahead.
